FYP - PROTON VAVE PROJECT

Alhamdulillah yesterday most of final year students attended the project preview conducted by proton engineer.  There are lot of possible project can be conducted by student and lecturer.  Based on briefing there are many possible product improvement can be proposed to upgrade quality and value of the proton part.  Any FYP student who are interested to participate in this project and looking for supervisor please come and discuss with me.  Maybe we can help our automotive industry to upgrade their quality and business.

Final Year Project With PROTON

A briefing by Proton will be held next week for Part 7 FYP students and also lecturers.  This briefing is to help those who still dont have any title for FYP.

The briefing will be held at below place and date:

Time   : 1- 2 pm (FYP slot)
Date   :   14/7/10 (Wednesday)
Place  :   Dewan Kuliah B

The briefing should cover:

1.  Project flow
2.  Description of parts given
3.  What type of research to cut cost
4.  Constraints or limitation

Project: Value engineering program (proton-universities)
Background:
Proton through its Vendor Development Department had requested joint-research with few public universities in order to reduce cost of car components for Proton SAGA and EXORA This joint-research program is called value engineering program .Several universities had been identified to participate in this program including UiTM through Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM).

Objective of project:
  • To minimize cost of Proton Saga and Exora components in various aspect (mechanical design and manufacturing)
  • To maintain or improve quality of the components.
  • To create more research based on industrial problems.
  • To commercialize research done by university with the help of industry.
Expected Outcome for UiTM:
To have commercialized research.
Introduction of program:
‘Value Engineering’ program is initiated by Proton’s Vendor Development Group to have collaboration research with public universities. The potential components from Proton Saga and Exora are identified by Proton. The components then are sent to participated universities (including UiTM) to be studied for possible improvement (in terms of design, material, manufacturing process and production setup). The parts modules involved are: Seat assembly, Harness, Electrical assembly, Air-condition unit assembly, Compressor, Exhaust assembly, Fuel tanks assembly, Instrument panel and Lamp assembly.
At initial stage, Proton will provide seed money (RM15000) to FKM for feasibility study of the modules. This is up to topic or idea generation proposed by students and/or lecturer.
Once the idea is presented and agreed by Proton, the students/lecturer will be awarded some amount of money and they will be permitted to proceed to next stage: Idea realization. This is the stage where research is done thoroughly using UiTM’s facilities.
Once the research has finished, UiTM needs to produce prototype and testing of prototype afterward. This prototype will be funded by Proton.
If the testing result is ok and being reviewed by both parties, the last stage is to commercialize the idea by the aid of Proton and its vendors.
